Wow @eastdragon42, congrats on the good buy price. If you think they'll drop down to that price again before the patch is released, you could actually consider putting those up at 319 Gold right now to try to pull in a quick 20% profit. Then you'd be able to buy 60k before the patch. ;-)

Oh and @nuhertz is right about speculation. For Patch 1.0.6, FS Emeralds pull in a hefty profit so speculators pushed FS Emerald prices before Patch 1.0.7 hit and there was no profit in them after the patch went life. I suspect the same thing is happening right now with Topazes and Amethysts and hence the original purpose of the thread.

Funny thing is, FS Emeralds have dropped to about a 2-month low and they may end up as the 2nd biggest profit opportunity for Patch 1.0.8 if you can time the bottom of the market. It may be worth hedging your Tome investment with some FS Emeralds if you can catch them under 2500. They may actually be a good profit opportunity without the patch, because they have the most volatility of any gem, by far and have a tendency to randomly spike up or down 30+% for 1 or 2 days at a time.

I figured out that in order to profit on my tome investment I will have to sell them higher than 493g per. I will likely not double my investment, but, I should still make a good bit of coin. Keeping the fingers crossed and the wood knocked (get your minds out of the gutters).

I think I'm gonna see if I can offload my Tomes during a spike a little above my breakeven over the next few days. I have a feeling the prices were kept artificially high by speculators. *cough* I might be able to get a substantially cheaper price next Thursday. FS Topaz and Amethyst prices are also dropping rapidly as it seems like there's little chance the patch will go live next Tuesday, after all. The playerbase is also shrinking as usually happens before most patches.

I on the otherhand picked up another 100k around 311 per. My buy price is between 250-350, but only on the higher end if I wasn't able to acquire any in the past few days because it was above 350. I'm averaged in on my 240k at around 310 each.

Thanks! Yah, got lucky...though would've been even better if I could've bought 500,000 as opposed to just 50,000. Doubt it'll drop down that low again before the patch, though, so will probably just hold onto these until after the patch goes live.

8 hour Maintenance Tuesday! Prices are already rising.

Up to 700k tomes, averaged in around 280 each.

Spent all my available gold on Brims at 5k each, and Tomes at around 288 each. Have some auctions closing soon, but man, feels odd to be at 0 again.

I feel my initial assessment of the Gems is still good. I think speculators have inflated the price of amethysts and topazes and now Rubies to some extent. Everyone took a lose on Emeralds in 1.0.7 and it seems like those are pretty stable. I would stay away from amethysts and topazes this time, but it's hard to ignore the trend that topazes have always had the biggest return even if their prices are inflated right now.

I have no idea what's going to happen with Tomes. There are tens of millions, if not hundreds of millions of Tomes out there sitting in people's auction lists right now all planning to dump them at once.

What are thoughts on Iridescent Tears and Essences? Essences have been pretty stable and Tears look like they've only ticked up a little.

I think the game we're playing with materials is a very simple one. I think what we're looking for is an increase in daily players. Upgrading gems, crafting amulets, bracers, shoulders, that's what we're looking for to see the price changes we want to see.

If 1.0.8 has enough candy to entice everyone back to play, we will see prices go up across the board.

Look at Gem prices on the RMAH vs Gold AH. The conversion has been pretty stable, but the value has gone down. What that means to me is less people buying. If anyone hasn't looked recently, all Radiant Star gems are $1 or less now and hovering around 21m gold.

More people have to come back to get some price changes. Who knows if that will happen.

Be prepared to wait a week. The scenario I see in my head is everyone jumps back in, gets excited, crafts with the materials they have, and then realize they don't have enough tomes.

I expect the prices on the tomes to lag everything else.

Any price jumps before then is just some stupid speculators attempting to buy some to resell at a profit down the road...... :)

I plan on my mates getting on here, make a little Wednesday, make more in the next two weeks. I'm prepared to wait a year to win the bloody Monday. I got stuff all tomes hope I just double up which would be like 20mill. As can see on my pic I am poverty.

I doubled up on my brim purchases already. @Baldy with the notify from 5k-10k, bought at 5k, sold at 9500. Only sold a portion, seeing if I can command a higher price.

No patch for today it seems.

Didn't end up dropping any cash, prices have already skyrocketed where I was looking to invest.

Careful with brims, people got burnt last over xmas/nye on this forum when everyone thought 25k was rock bottom but good luck!

@ninjax I'm looking to craft a lot in the future, so it's definitely not wasted gold. Plus, at 5k, there's only so much lower that they can go. The max loss has gone down 5 fold, from 24999 to 4999. Seems like a better risk.

Really my goal with brims is to breakeven on the ones I sell vs the ones I keep.

I can hold indefinitely.
