I think if we had a barter listing built-in to D3 it would be great.

Click an item in your stash, put items with minimum stats you're looking to trade for, and list it. Ten listings, and it will show you any matches to currently existing listings.... make an offer, add gold or another item to sweeten the deal if you want, offer accepted, boom, blizzard transfers the items/gold/gems.

Sounds like a great idea. This is pretty much the trade window system (when you trade with other people) except it would be better because 1) everyone would be able to see everyone's trade offerings and 2) no chance of getting scammed. I think Blizzard's inability to stop rampant scamming really hurt P2P trades. At this point, I wouldn't risk losing my 100 M awesome/valuable item for 10 M gold; I'm just going to use AH and take the 15 M cut.

I love the idea in theory (see my suggestions below). In practice it would just be the Pokemon GTS. Everyone wanting Godly items for moderately good items. The whole thing will be spam even if you allow everyone only a single open barter.

You could try to combat that one way or another, but I'm not sure anything would help. Maybe a spam reporting system? 5 SPAM clicks on any offer drops the offer immediately. 5 delisted items in 10 days gets your account flagged to the mods who have the option of suspending your bartering ability for X days or recognize you're just inexperienced and have no idea what you're doing. Perhaps too many headaches for Blizzard.

I think you would limit it to 1 or 2 active solicitations, but 10 response offers to open solicitations. There would have to be a time limit for any negotiation on both the offerer side and the solicitor side. I would also suggest a check box for "automatically approve trade" for anything meeting your criteria so there's no waiting period.
