first legendary!

its been 200+ hours and i found my first legendary item! what am i doing wrong? how much mf should I have?
if you're wondering i got it off a gob act 3
i only have 16% mf base + nv + paragon...
my thought process is that if I can up my paragon lvls, then I don't need to compromise on my gear, cuz my mf gear sucks

1 last question... i heard having a macro/script to mf swap is legal, but is that true?

TIA

I think MF helps a little bit, but since legendaries are so rare anyway, the width of the bell curve is going to be pretty wide. There will be a small number of people finding dozens of legendaries, a small number of people finding none, but finding let's say, 30 will be within the same deviation as say, finding only 2. MF certainly helps with finding rares though... not just the number (pushing blues to yellows), but also the quality (pushing 4 or 5 affix ones to 6 affix).

I don't think scripts have ever been legal, but it seems pretty difficult to detect (based on the fact that it's just automated clicking in-game) and more importantly, it's not affecting anyone negatively. However, it's like speeding; even going a little above the speed limit is against the law and a cop has full carte blanche to pull you over and give you a ticket.

Be careful with this statement - while MF does indeed help push the quality (more yellows), there isn't any evidence that it affects the ilvl of the items. Here is a link to a great analysis that mined real data gathered in game, if anyone is interested.

Over the last 96 hours i've found 4 legendaries and i'm using zero MF apart from what paragon is giving me, i'm at level 28 now so im getting a total of 84 MF + the 5NV Stacks.

It's all down to luck imo, i've tried MF swapping and all sorts ,apart from finding one set item pre patch, i cant say that it was really worth while using MF swap since white trash can also drop legendaries, you would be skipping the possibility on each white mob you encounter dropping a decent by using MF swapping

I've found 1 legendary in over 200+ hours. MF gear helps, but it's mainly just luck

You're right about it not being luck. It's just probability. You did watch him play, right?DiabloProgress has some interesting statistics:

Alkaizer went from level 76 to level 81 in about 24 hours (period measured by "last logout timestamp" attribute).
Amount of kills on his account:

- Level 76, Elite Kills: 68556, Lifetime Kills: 1216106

- Level 81, Elite Kills: 71787, Lifetime Kills: 1294228

So it was 78122 normal kills and 3231 elite kills in 1 day.

Or 3255 normal kills per hour and 134 elite kills per 1 hour.

Over 3255 elite kills at 375% MF, "luck" drops out of the equation and long-term trends kick in. The best way to get more Legendaries is to kill more monsters wearing more MF (which doesn't scale linearly).

You might not be able to approach 134 elite kills per hour, but try optimizing your clvl 60 character for running Act 2 normal to go searching for Leoric's Signet with 375% MF and you'll get the same kind of feeling he did running Act 3 Inferno. It's great fun at first and unbelievably dull the 4th time through.

Tried that today Ecocd. Act 2 normal, 375%mf and after 2 full clears realized it's time to give this long shot up.

I aswell think it's just luck, I've found 5 legendaries since 1.04 and got no MF.
Now using 200mf sat at level 20 paragon, and I just feel less lucky, one bad day for me(couple of days).

Try going less than 350MF. It might help. I think they bugged something out whenever I hit 375 or over I don't get stuff dropping out. Their capping system must been screwed, thats what I think.

I still find good items once a while. A lot of crap legendaries that don't worth anything as the stats are not good. couldn't sold them for more than 1m. except for the lacuni prowlers.

Got 3 today (2 in one run!), but they were mediocre. Angel Hair Braid (seriously?), Stormshield (32% block, but no crit or vit), and Promise of Glory (more like Promise of CRAP!). Are the set items slightly more rare because there are simply less of them or are they in a different treasure class? These random legendaries are such a tease because yes, they are pretty rare, but more often than not, they're just as bad as any random rare!

Got some low lvl while playing with friens but till now its only one string of ears to mention while leveling a friend.
For the drops I think its the more monsters you kill the better the chance to get a legendary but to get a good one youll need mf.
Cant remember but somewhere I've seen a post that there will be a legendary every 2000 rare droped. But this will be long time statistic to do.

I got a feeling that the MF gear actually helps define the level of the legendary drops . I have about 300%MF including NV and only played 60 hours ( due to work contraints) farming in Act 3 since the 1.04 patch and so far I have only gotten 3 LVL 63 legendary items.

Not that good of a statistic regarding drop rate.

I feel the same, I have never found a set piece and never found a legendary in inferno (only gold farming nightmare and hell).
